Among REB's distribution areas, the highest load shedding occurred in Mymensingh region yesterday. Load shedding in the region was 517 MW, which was 42 percent load shedding.

Last April 22 (Monday) 16 thousand 233 megawatts of electricity was produced in the country. Which is the highest amount of electricity production in the country so far. But despite the increase in production, load shedding has increased across the country amid intense heatwaves. There has been severe load shedding especially in rural areas.

Rural Electrification Board (REB), the country's largest distribution company, supplies electricity to more than 80 percent of the country's rural areas.

According to REB's zonal electricity demand and supply data, yesterday (Tuesday) around 3 pm, this distribution company had to load-shedding 1,744 megawatts. At this time, the company's electricity demand across the country was 8 thousand 896 MW, and it supplied 7 thousand 152 MW.

Mymensingh region had the highest loadshedding among REB's distribution areas yesterday. Load shedding in the region was 517 MW, which was 42 percent load shedding.

Also, 149 MW in Chittagong, 563 MW in Dhaka, 230 MW in Comilla, 207 MW in Rajshahi and 78 MW in Rangpur have been load shedding. However, the company has been able to supply electricity according to demand in Barisal, Sylhet and Khulna areas.

A director of REB told TBS on condition of anonymity, "At present, we are not getting electricity compared to the demand in our distribution area. Due to which we are forced to load shedding even in this heat."

Billal Hossain, a resident of Comilla's Laksam upazila, told The Business Standard, "There was no electricity almost the whole night. Our village does not get electricity for six hours a day. The government is claiming that the country's electricity capacity is 100%. But the opposite is happening. The government should provide electricity within 24 hours. Supplying electricity for at least 6 to 8 hours.”

Haseeb Tanveer, a resident of Narsingdi, said, "Load shedding is very high now. The situation is unbearable. Even a long time ago there was no electricity in Tapdaha. Along with the mosquito problem, there is severe suffering from load shedding."

Meanwhile, Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) and Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) said that there is no shortage of electricity in the capital. Although it is not load shedding, it is also known from the concerned organization that there is a short-term power outage in some areas due to technical errors.

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) is the only state agency to transmit electricity from power stations to the national grid. According to the information of the company, yesterday (Tuesday) at 3 pm, the electricity demand across the country was 15 thousand 300 megawatts. At that time electricity production was 14 thousand 202 MW. Then the load shedding is 1049 MW.

State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid told the media, "We are asking the power plants to run at full load. But the big issue here is finance. I have to give gas regularly. I am sitting with power plants. My main challenge is to keep the power plants running. Give them financial support. .”

Mohammad Hossain, Director General of Power Cell, told The Business Standard, "The way the power department is planning is to generate more than 16,000 MW this year and the production is being done accordingly. The demand for electricity has increased by 1,000 MW this year compared to last year. Hence, there is load shedding compared to last year. I cannot guarantee that it will decrease. In that case, there is a risk of maximum load shedding of 500 to 1500 megawatts."

Meanwhile, the temperature is not predicted to decrease for the next 1 week, said meteorologists. Meteorologist Mustafa Kamal Palash told The Business Standard, "The temperature will continue till April 28 over Bangladesh and India's West Bengal."
