Devastating flash floods have swept through four eastern and southeastern districts—Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Feni, and Cumilla—stranding large numbers of people and submerging homes, roads, and farmland. In Feni’s Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas, over 100 villages were submerged as continuous heavy rainfall and upstream water flow caused breaches in 17 sections of the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers’ flood control embankments. The flooding has caused widespread damage, particularly to agricultural lands and infrastructure, leaving many families in dire situations.
In Cumilla’s Chauddagram upazila, the upazila health complex was forced to release all patients after floodwaters entered the facility, making it impossible to continue providing health services. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a fresh 48-hour warning, predicting continued heavy rainfall that may lead to further flooding and landslides in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Authorities are working to provide relief, but the extent of the damage has overwhelmed many communities.
