Grameenphone (GP) has made a significant breakthrough in the Asian advertising industry by unveiling an eco-friendly billboard system that ingeniously integrates solar power technology. This pioneering initiative marks a departure from traditional advertising methods by utilizing vinyl that is not only eco-friendly but also certified by the prestigious Hohenstein Lab, ensuring its sustainability and environmental friendliness. Launched with great fanfare in Cox's Bazar in September, this innovative approach carries a powerful message of environmental awareness, urging the public to maintain cleanliness and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.

By shifting away from harmful PVC vinyl and conventional electricity, GP's initiative addresses the environmental impact of the Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising industry in Bangladesh. Traditional PVC vinyl, known for its toxic chemical release and recycling challenges, alongside conventional electricity's contribution to air pollution, is replaced with recyclable, durable alternatives and renewable energy. This move not only reduces the environmental footprint of billboard advertising but also aligns with global trends towards more sustainable business practices, setting a precedent for the industry.

The choice of Cox’s Bazar for launching this eco-friendly billboard system is strategic, underscoring the region's environmental significance and vulnerability to climate change. The initiative aims to enhance climate resilience, promote sustainable tourism, and tap into renewable energy sources while involving local communities in conservation efforts. By doing so, GP contributes to a holistic approach to ecological sustainability, positioning Cox's Bazar as a model for balancing economic development with environmental conservation and inspiring a broader shift towards sustainable practices across industries.
