A top local leader of the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association said that they have recently received reports of pirates bringing food from outside the ships.
Meanwhile, the ship's owner claimed that maximum efforts are being made to quickly rescue the detained ship and the 23 hostages.
The owner had earlier said that the ship had 25 days of food when it was attacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean on March 12.
The leader of the association said that since the pirates have been eating this food with the sailors since the beginning, the stocks of the ships should be reduced by now.
When contacted, Mizanul Islam, Media Adviser of KSRM Group, the owner of the ship, said that they have learned that the pirates have brought food for themselves from outside.
However, he mentioned that the sailors' food on the ship has not yet run out.
He said, 'Ships have a certain amount of food stored, which is not for an indefinite period. And when the food is low, the pirates provide food for everyone, there is no reason to worry about it.'
He said that the owners are working to bring back the hostage sailors as soon as possible after negotiating with the pirates through a third party.
An official of the owner company, who did not want to be named, said that they hope this problem can be solved before next Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that all parties are working together for that purpose.
A few days ago, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud told reporters after a program in Chittagong that the government is optimistic about the return of the hostage sailors from the pirates very quickly.
