Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said that if rumors continue on social media, it will be stopped temporarily if necessary. He told reporters after the meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order at the secretariat on Sunday.
He said, "Those who control the social media will be asked to take measures to stop the spread of rumours. If they do not take action, action will be taken against them.
The minister said, "Since their (Facebook-YouTube) head office is not located here, they do not listen to our recommendations or words on various issues in order to prevent rumors and control cybercrime. We will publicize what they are not listening to. If necessary, social media will be closed for some time.
He said, "I will properly notify the international organization first that they (social media) are continuing these crimes and rumors without taking our complaints into consideration and there is no initiative on their part." First, they will be told repeatedly, if necessary we will also say it in the form of advertisement in the newspaper, so that the people of the world do not think that the fundamental rights are being disrupted here.
He also said, 'Social media is under the provisions of the law - if any complaint is received, action should be taken after investigation. They are not investigating our complaints and taking action. Their indifference will be communicated to the public through public notice. If ever they are closed, the responsibility should be on them and not on the government. Let people know what we complained to them, we don't get remedial by complaining.
