The World Economic Forum, the world's largest economic alliance, is holding a special conference in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. Borel has come to attend the conference as an EU representative. Speaking to reporters at the end of the conference, Borrell said that EU members Spain, Ireland, Malta and Slovenia are the most advanced in this regard.
Last March, these three countries said that they are working to recognize Palestine as a state.
In response to the news, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said recognizing Palestine as a state would amount to "declaring a prize for terror".
