Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has announced plans to build a replica of Titanic-2, the most famous ship in history.
Palmer first announced his plans in 2012 and later in 2018, according to CNN.
He reiterated his project to build a replica of the ship during an event at the Sydney Opera House on Wednesday (March 13). Palmer said his company, Blue Star Line, now wants to build the replica ship, which will set sail in June 2027.
"We are very pleased to announce that, after an unexpected delay, we have re-engaged with our partners on the Titanic dream," he said.
He also said that the shipping industry faced a long-term shutdown due to the Covid lockdowns. So I stopped thinking about it for a long time. We have the world's best shipbuilders, designers and engineers returning to the decks to build Titanic-2. This ship will be much more advanced than the previous Titanic.
Palmer told local media, "Tenders have been called for the construction of the ship. The ship will have space on board for 2,345 passengers with 835 cabins on 9 decks. About half of the cabins will be reserved for first class passengers.
NDTV reported that the interior and cabin layout of the ship including ballroom, swimming pool will remain the same as the original ship.
"Titanic 2 is something that needs to be built," Palmer said. We all know how to fight. We finance armies and wars. People know about it. But, making peace is very difficult. You have to stick with it every day to make peace. You have to move forward inch by inch.
Notably, The RMS Titanic is a British passenger ship, which is one of the largest and most luxurious ships ever built. The ship took part in the maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City and carried 2,240 passengers and crew.
But, on April 15, 1912, the ship collided with a huge iceberg and sank in less than three hours. More than 1,500 people died in that accident.
