King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan arrived in Dhaka on a four-day state visit. He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on a special flight on Monday (March 25) around 10 am. The King of Bhutan was given a red carpet reception at the airport.
After the Great War of Liberation, Bangladesh was first recognized as an independent country by the friendly country Bhutan. The highest leadership of the country, who extended the hand of friendship from time to time, came to Bangladesh again. After almost a century, the King of Bhutan has visited Bangladesh to join the celebrations of Independence Day.
President Md. At the invitation of Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan has come on a four-day visit to Bangladesh mainly to celebrate Independence Day. In addition to this, he will also participate in several high-level meetings.
The King of Bhutan will also meet with the President-Prime Minister during this visit. At least three MoUs including investments in special economic zones may be signed.
Wangchuk who last visited Dhaka in 2013 came this time with Queen Jetsun Pema. Besides, after the last national elections, this is the visit of the highest leadership of a country, where various issues including import of hydropower from Bhutan, trade, tourism, agriculture, health, education, culture can gain importance. Apart from this, three MoUs can be signed and one agreement can be renewed in the meeting.
On the second day of the visit, King Namgyel Wangchuck will pay tribute to the martyrs at Savar National Memorial in the early hours of March 26. He will visit Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on his return from there. Besides, in the afternoon will attend the ceremony of Bangabhaban.
On the morning of March 27, the King of Bhutan will visit the Padma Bridge. From there, he will visit the Japan-Bangladesh joint management special economic zone in Narayanganj. Returning to Dhaka in the afternoon will sit with the business representatives of Bangladesh.
However, Queen Jetsun Pema is not staying with the King during the entire visit. He will return to the country on a special flight on March 27, leaving the king behind.
On the fourth day of the visit, the king will go to Syedpur by plane on March 28. From there he will visit Special Economic Zone of Kurigram by road. Aiming to boost regional trade and investment, Bangladesh's target is to release this special economic zone for Bhutanese investment. If this is possible, a land link will be established with the border town of Phuntsaling in Bhutan. New doors of trilateral trade will be opened.
Raja Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will return to Bhutan via Assam in India through Sonahat land port of Bangladesh that afternoon.
