The 54th Great Independence and National Day is today Tuesday (March 26). The struggle for the establishment of Bangladesh, which began with the great language movement of 1952, took full form in 1971. After the barbaric torture, indiscriminate killings and crossing the sea of blood by the Pakistani invading forces, the absolute desire for freedom is met. The day will be celebrated across the country with due dignity.
After a long bloody war of 9 months, on 16 December 1971, a land called Bangladesh appeared as a new state on the world map.
The annual budget of newly independent Bangladesh in 1971 is only 786 crore rupees, today it has become a budget of 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crore rupees. The current per capita income is 2 thousand 814 US dollars in the country with a per capita income of 129 dollars that day. Time has passed, Bangladesh has also progressed in keeping with the world. Per capita income, infrastructure development, visible changes in education and health sectors, private sector investment and domestic production, foreign trade, technological development and consumption and resource production and extraction have increased visibly.
After independence, Bangladesh was called the country of 'bottomless basket'. After 54 years of independence, Bangladesh of poverty and disaster is now on the way to become a developing country. Bangladesh has progressed in every socio-economic index including economic growth, health, education, empowerment of women, increase in per capita income. Nation will celebrate Independence Day with this achievement.
Various programs have been taken at the national level to celebrate the day with due dignity. On this day, the day will be started with the firing of cannon 31 times in the whole country including Dhaka. As the sun rises, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay wreaths at Savar National Memorial. After that, under the leadership of the Minister of Liberation War, the Bir Shreshtha family, war-victims and brave freedom fighters will offer wreaths. People from all walks of life including foreign diplomats, various political and social organizations will pay tribute to the martyred freedom fighters by placing wreaths at the memorial.
On this day, the national flag will be hoisted at sunrise in all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings and easily visible buildings in Dhaka city and important buildings and structures will be decorated with lights. The main roads and road islands of Dhaka and other cities of the country will be decorated with the national flag and other flags. Bands of different forces will play music at different important places in Dhaka.
Today is a public holiday. All newspapers will publish special circulars, articles and literary magazines highlighting the significance of the day. On this occasion, the electronic media is promoting various programs based on the Liberation War for a month.
