According to several media in India, Maxwell injured his thumb while fielding against Mumbai Indians last Thursday. That's why the ace all-rounder could not play in the last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Now Maxwell himself said why he was not seen in the eleven in this match.
The news of Maxwell's injury is actually rumours. Basically, he is not in rhythm and has asked for rest on his own. He asked for some time from the team management to get fit mentally and physically. So the team management rested him for the match against Hyderabad.
Maxwell scored 28 runs at an average of just 5.33 in 6 matches in the current season of IPL. Dak killed in three of them. He batted at a strike rate of 94.12 in the tournament. These statistics show that this all-rounder is a shadow of himself.
Maxwell said, "I went to Faf (du Plessis) and the coaches after the last match (against Mumbai) and I think maybe it's time to give someone else a chance. It was a very easy decision for me personally. I have come across such situations before. The more I played, the worse things got. So I felt the need to give myself some mental and physical rest, so that my body could respond properly again. I think it's a good time to give someone else a chance. I hope he will show his ability and secure a place in the team.
Finding himself lost, Maxwell said, 'It can happen sometimes in T20 cricket. It's a game changer. If I talk about the first match, the ball hit the middle of my bat. Still the ball went to the keeper. Seeing that there was a chance to run, I played the shot a little earlier. Had time been on my side, the ball would have gone far past (the keeper's) gloves. I would have got a boundary on the first ball. The start of the tournament would have been good. But that didn't happen.
