Six agreements and five memorandums of understanding are being signed between the two countries during the upcoming visit of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin-Hamad Al Thani to Bangladesh. Apart from this, a road and a park in Dhaka will be named after the Emir of Qatar. He is coming to Bangladesh tomorrow Monday on a two-day visit by special flight.
The six agreements that will be signed during the visit are- 1. Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation and Tax Evasion, 2. Agreements on cooperation in legal matters, 3. Agreements relating to carriage by sea, 4. Mutual investment development and protection agreement between the two countries, 5. Agreement on the transfer of convicted persons of the two countries, 6. Agreement regarding formation of joint business council.
Apart from this, the five MoUs that will be signed are- 1. Memorandum of Understanding on Manpower, 2. Memorandum of Understanding on Port Management, 3. Memorandum of Understanding on Higher Education and Scientific Research, 4. Memorandum of Understanding on Youth Sports, 5. Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Diplomatic Training.
Meanwhile, the park to be built at Balur Math in Kalshi area in Dhaka and the road from ECB Square to Kalshi Flyover will be named after Sheikh Tamim Bin-Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. The Emir of Qatar himself will inaugurate both the facilities on the afternoon of April 23.

He will lead a high-level delegation. This is Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's first high-level state visit from Middle Eastern countries after forming the government in January 2024.
The existing relationship between Bangladesh and Qatar is very deep, friendly and multifaceted. Qatar is one of the Muslim countries that recognized Bangladesh in 1974 during Bangabandhu's time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited Qatar twice in March and May 2023, the bilateral relations between the two countries have reached a strong position. In continuation of this, Emir of Qatar is visiting Bangladesh.
Recently, with the aim of expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation through diplomatic communication and discussions at various levels with Qatar, areas such as trade, investment and employment creation, energy, aviation, agriculture, food security, climate change etc. have been identified.
The Emir of Qatar will arrive in Dhaka by special flight tomorrow Monday afternoon. President Md. Sahabuddin will welcome him at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. At this time he will be given a guard of honour.
On the morning of April 23, Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will pay a courtesy call on the Emir of Qatar. After that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will first have a private meeting with the Emir of Qatar and later a formal bilateral meeting at the Ganabhaban. After the meeting, six agreements and five memorandums of understanding will be signed between the two countries. According to the state. Sahabuddin will host a courtesy lunch at the Emir of Qatar at Bangabhaban. He will leave Dhaka by special flight that evening.
The Emir of Qatar's visit is part of his Asia tour. Rich in petroleum and natural gas, Qatar has the highest average per capita income. The country is considered as an influential country in the Middle East due to its strong economy, geopolitical position and diplomatic activity and mediation. Qatar is one of the labor markets of Bangladesh in the Middle East where about four lakh Bangladeshis are working.
Besides, Qatar is considered as a potential source of investment for Bangladesh, possessing a large amount of sovereign wealth funds. Moreover, Qatar is one of the most important sources of energy imports for Bangladesh. The upcoming visit of the Emir of Qatar is therefore a major milestone for bilateral relations.
