Prothom Alo, owned by Media Star Limited, has been taken by the owner for sale. They are in talks with various industry groups to sell Prothom Alo. It has been confirmed that the editor and publisher of Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman himself had an informal meeting with two industrial groups. Also, other owners Simin Rahman Shajreh Haque are said to be talking to the policy makers of various industry groups for the sale of Prothom Alo.
According to various sources, the price quoted for the sale of Prothom Alo is very high and hence the negotiations are going well. Karnaphuli Group owned by Saber Hossain Chowdhury was interested in buying Prothom Alo. But multiple sources said that Karnaphuli Group is not willing to buy Prothom Alo at the price requested by Prothom Alo.
According to various sources, in the context of Karnaphuli Group's negotiations, several other big industrial families have become interested in buying Prothom Alo and they have also started talks with the directors of Media Star.
Among the industrial groups that have shown interest in buying Prothom Alo, S Alam Group is now at the top. The chief executive officer of a television channel controlled by S Alam Group was once working in Prothom Alo and is known to be a very close favorite of Motiur Rahman. Politically they were also involved with communist politics at one time. Through him, S Alam Group has now started discussions with Prothom Alo Group regarding the sale of newspapers.
Several journalists of Prothom Alo are now working in different organizations of S Alam Group. Various responsible sources have confirmed that they are negotiating with Prothom Alo in this regard. One of the industrial groups of the country, Square, is not behind in the bargain. Prothom Alo has a special relationship with Square Group. The two brothers who own Square Group have a close relationship with Matiur Rahman. Every year Prothom Alo Meryl conducts Prothom Alo Festival sponsored by the Square Group, where stars are rewarded and kept loyal to Prothom Alo. Several responsible sources have confirmed that Square Group has also expressed interest in buying the magazine.
Note that Square owns Machranga Television. In this case, various sources have confirmed that Anjan Chowdhury, one of the leaders of Square Group, is in talks with the owners of Prothom Alo about buying the newspaper. MGI or Meghna Meghna Group of Industries, the owner of Ekatar Television, is also interested in buying Prothom Alo. MGI is one of the country's industrial conglomerates and owns Seventy-Eka Television. Various responsible sources have confirmed that they are already talking about buying Prothom Alo.
Multiple sources say that the price being asked for the sale of Prothom Alo is very high. And that's why the issue of price has become important now. But Prothom Alo is finally being sold is pretty sure.
