All secondary schools, colleges, madrassas and technical educational institutions in five districts of the country including Dhaka will be closed on Monday (April 29) due to severe heat wave. The remaining four districts are Chuadanga, Jessore, Khulna and Rajshahi.
This information was informed in a press release sent to the media by Information and Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education on Sunday (April 28).
It is said that due to ongoing fire in the country, all secondary schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions in Dhaka, Chuadanga, Jessore, Khulna and Rajshahi districts will be closed on Monday (April 29) in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Meteorological Department.
The notification also said, however, the educational institutions which have air-conditioning system can be kept open if the authorities want.
Besides, the decision will be announced on Monday whether educational institutions will be closed in these five districts or in other districts affected by the heat wave.
Educational institutions were supposed to open on April 21 after the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. Holidays extended due to severe heat wave. In this, educational institutions are closed for another week. In the notification issued by the Ministry of Education on April 25, it is said that classes will start as usual in educational institutions from Sunday (April 28).
Accordingly, classes are going on in all educational institutions across the country on Sunday. However, there have been reports of students falling ill after coming to class in many institutions. Besides, a madrasa teacher in Chittagong fell ill due to heat. He died when taken to the hospital. In some other districts, the news of teachers falling ill has also come in the media.
In such a situation, the Ministry of Education has decided to close the educational institutions in each region after knowing the temperature of any district during the heat wave.
