TikTok may be banned in the United States. Instagram is trying to share this opportunity with TikTok users. Experts said that the platform is correcting its algorithms for this.
According to the BBC, Instagram will prioritize original creators when it comes to Reel recommendations through algorithm changes. This change will give all creators of the platform equal opportunity to promote content.
According to experts, Instagram is going to copy the reason why TikTok got the need. Because the United States has the possibility of a ban on lizards.
But some creators say the changes are coming too late. Because many have already lost patience with Instagram's Reels feature.
In a blog post, Instagram said it would "revise" its previous content recommendation methods, which gave more support to accounts with more followers and "aggregators". Accounts that repost original content created by others are called aggregators. Instagram will bring these changes in the coming months.
"It's clear what Instagram is trying to do," said Jasmine Enberg, chief social media analyst at EMarketer. Instagram wants to attract TikTok creators. TikTok has become a 'platform of choice' thanks to the platform's personalized algorithm and video recommendations on the For You page.
Anyone's video can go viral on Tiktok. For this the platform has gained worldwide popularity. And the matter will be imitated by Meta.
Meta is trying to get creators to flock to Instagram when TikTok gets banned, Enberg says. Katie Cowan of Manchester-based platform Creative Boom said Instagram's system was frustrating for small creators. But platform and algorithm changes are coming 'too late'. Because users are already frustrated with Instagram's systems.
He said users are fed up with Instagram's frequent changes. Aggregator accounts will no longer be recommended in Post Explorer or Reels Feed in the coming months. Instagram will 'reward' original content creators by removing fake videos and recommending original videos. However, this will not apply to remix, edit, meme and parody content.
Apart from this, the platform will also add labels to identify the original creator of the video.
Instagram says creators spend a lot of time and effort creating new content. So those who make it, should be credited and distributed. Even when reposting from another account, credit should be given to the original creators.
If another post is reposted, the content creators will get a notification. And also Instagram will recommend original content along with repost content. Meta isn't the only one imitating TikTok's algorithm.
Amazon-owned popular video streaming Twitch also emulates TikTok. But it's unclear whether the changes are what creators and consumers really want, Kate Crown said
