After the training aircraft caught fire, the two pilots bravely and skillfully diverted the aircraft from a densely populated area near the airport to a sparsely populated area to avoid major damage.
This information was informed in a press release sent by the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
According to the notification, a Yak-130 training aircraft of the Air Force took off from Chittagong Air Force Base Zahurul Haque at around 10:25 am on Thursday as part of regular training. Later, while returning after training, the aircraft crashed near the mouth of the Karnaphuli river. After the accident, the aeronautical wing commander said. Sohan Hasan Khan and Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad landed from the plane in the river by emergency parachute. The two pilots were rescued by the rescue teams of the Bangladesh Air Force and Navy and the combined efforts of local fishermen. Among the pilots, Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawad was rushed to BNS Patenga as his condition was critical. At that time the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Meanwhile, a high-level investigation committee has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident on the instructions of Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan regarding the casualties of the training aircraft of the Air Force that crashed in the Karnaphuli river in Patenga, Chittagong.
According to ISPR, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan have prayed for the soul of the deceased and expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Efforts are underway to rescue the crashed plane.
According to the notification, the deceased squadron leader Muhammad Asim Jawad was born on March 20, 1992 in a noble Muslim family of Gopalpur village of Saturia police station in Manikganj. His father's name is Md. Aman Ullah and mother's name is Nilufa Akhtar Khanam. Asim Jawad passed SSC from Savar Cantonment Public School in 2007, HSC from Savar Cantonment Public College in 2009 and BSc (Arrow) from Bangladesh University of Professionals in 2012. He joined the Bangladesh Air Force on January 10, 2010. On 1 December 2011, he received the Sword of Honour, the highest honor for cadets, and was commissioned in the GD (P) branch.
According to the ISPR notification, during his service, he was engaged in important positions in various bases and units of the Air Force. He received the Mofiz Trophy, Chief of Air Staff Trophy and Chief of Air Staff Citation in recognition of professional excellence and achievement. Apart from this, he received the Chief of Air Staff's Trophy for Best in Flying (Indian Air Force) in recognition of his success in participating in courses in the Indian Air Force. He participated in various professional courses at home and abroad during his service and completed them successfully. He was 32 years 1 month 20 days old. Survived by wife, one daughter, one son, parents and numerous well-wishers.
