Awami League activists attacked the police station, injured 30 including the police

In protest against the arrest of an Awami League worker named Mostak Sikdar in Shailkupa of Jhenaidah, his followers surrounded the police station and attacked and vandalized it. After that Awami League activists clashed with the police. The incident happened on Sunday (June 9) around 3:30 pm.

It was initially reported that at least 30 people, including police and journalists, were injured in the incident. However, their names were not immediately known. Shafiqul Islam Chowdhury, OC of Shailkupa police station confirmed the matter.

According to the police, police arrested Mostak Sikdar of Dhora village of Dhalhara Chandra Union, accused of being an Awami League activist in Shailkupa, on Sunday afternoon. The angry Awami League leaders surrounded Shailkupa police station around 3:30 pm and started throwing bricks. Some policemen were seriously injured. Police fired blanks to bring the situation under control. The attackers dispersed. 5 policemen were injured in this incident.

On Saturday afternoon, the police said that Mostak Sikder was arrested on the complaint of the opponent made to the police station in connection with the conflict in the area.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Imran Zakaria said that the situation is calm at present. At least 5 policemen were injured in this 10-minute attack. Two have been arrested.
