26 cows died one by one after eating grass

26 cows of a farmer died after eating Napier grass in the east of Netrakona. These cows died in Tahazeed Agro Farm in Paschim Para village of Sadar Union of Upazila in the last two days. Several more cows have fallen ill.

It is known that Zahirul Islam has developed a commercial farm called Tahazid Agro Farm in Purbadhala. This year, he prepared more than half a hundred bulls and cows in his farm ahead of Eid al-Adha. He used to feed the cows on the grass grown next to the farm. However, last Monday and Tuesday, the cows of that farm suddenly fell ill after eating khas. 26 cows died one by one in two days. About 10-15 more cows are under treatment in sick condition.

The owner of the farm, Zahirul Islam, said that his cows fell ill after being fed Napier grass on Saturday evening. Altogether 26 cows died in the farm. All the bulls were prepared for sale at the time of cow sacrifice. He said that his farm has suffered a financial loss of about 30 lakh rupees.

Purbadhala Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. MMA Awal Talukder said that the level of nitrogen in young grass is high during rains. Cows can die from nitrate poisoning. The animal resources department is collecting grass samples. More details will be known after the exam. Our medical team is providing round the clock medical care.
