After losing against India in the Super Eight, Bangladesh's semi-final dream has turned into a nightmare! Although still on paper, there are complex equations to match. Former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortuza spoke about Bangladesh team's performance after losing by 50 runs against India.
Taskin Ahmed was not in the eleven in the loss match against India yesterday. Mashrafe expressed some disappointment in such a decision. He wrote on Facebook, 'If you saw the game of South Africa and America, you understood that this wicket is not like other fields, there will be runs here. We sat Zaker and played Mehdi in the first match because of course both openers were left-handed.'
"It seemed to me that it was a brave decision to play an off-spinner when the team was unable to score runs. Even today, Mehdi played and bowled well but I did not understand why he put Taskin.'-He added.
Mashrafe also wrote about Taskin, 'As far as I know, all the matches that Taskin has played since the World Cup of 2022 till today, only the previous match, that is, he was wicketless only with Australia, then again his economy rate is below seven in the last two years. So clearly we are going into this match without our best bowlers and genuine wicket taking options.'
Praising the two bowlers, Mashrafe wrote, 'Tanjim Shakib and Rishad are truly amazing. Both have been giving their best in every match since the start of the World Cup. I am actually very optimistic about Rishad because a leg-spinner was really needed in our cricket.'
About the team's batting, Mashrafe writes, 'If Bangladesh is to do well, it is necessary to do well in batting, there is no alternative. Because it is not always possible to get slow wickets especially in this type of tournament. It is normal to get runs on a good batting wicket, if we can't get runs there, we can't expect results in these tournaments just by bowling. One more match left, I hope it ends well inshallah. Good wishes for the Bangladesh team.'
