Tariqul Islam Rubel (24) of Tarail Upazila of Kishoreganj could not save himself by going behind a covered van to save his life while coming from work at around 8 o'clock last Friday (July 19).

According to family sources, Rubel is the 5th child among 4 sons and 2 daughters of farmer Farid Uddin of Hachla Pathariapara village of upazila. Studied in village school till eighth standard. He left the area 7 years ago for the financial stability of the family and moved to the capital city of Dhaka. After working in different places with his own efforts, he got a job three years ago in Rakin City of Rakin Development Company in Mirpur 13 Mandir Gate area. Rubel's cousin's husband lives in the same area in Dhaka Mirpur. According to Shafiqul Islam eyewitnesses, he said that there was a police clash with the protestors in Mirpur-13 area that night. At this time Rubel hid behind a covered van to save himself. After a while the situation calmed down a bit. Then he was shot in the head as he peeked to understand the situation. The bullet entered his head by the side of his left ear and exited through his forehead. Brain was knocked out by the bullet and fell on the road. He died on the spot. He also said that soon after the incident, after recognizing the deceased Rubel, someone called me on the mobile phone and informed about the incident. I ran there. Later I arranged to bring the dead body to the village house.
Rubel's father Farid Uddin said in a tearful voice that the call came from Dhaka around 9:30 that night. My son is no more. My son was never a worker of any political party. He went to Dhaka in search of livelihood. The day before his death, he told me on the phone that he would come home in a few days. He also said, what is the crime of my son? Why was he shot dead? Who will I ask for the murder of my child? Who will take responsibility for the murder? Why was my chest manik killed like this? The pain of losing someone cannot be explained to anyone. I want justice for my son's murder.
Rubel's mother, Helena Akhter, was left speechless after losing her child. He is sick of crying continuously for the sake of the child. He lost consciousness while crying for his son. When he regained consciousness, he called his son and cried. As if there is no one to fill the pain of losing a son. The mother of the deceased Rubel said while crying, what was the crime of my liver piece child? Why do I have to be childless? I want justice for the murder of my son.
Residents of local area Mostafizur Rahman said that he was very polite and modest in the area. I never thought that the boy would die like this.
Jewel Ahmed, elder brother of deceased Rubel, confirmed the matter and said that the ambulance carrying the body reached our village house around 2.30 am. The next day, Saturday, after the Zuhr prayer, the funeral was held. Later Lutfar Rahman, second officer of Tarail police station contacted me on the phone and knew the whole matter. He broke down in tears after showing Rubel's mobile phone pictures. He also said that when we asked to make a general diary at Kafrul police station in Dhaka regarding Rubel's death, the police did not accept it.
Tarail Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansoor Ali Arif admitted the truth of the incident and said that he heard that a boy named Tariqul Islam Rubel had died. I don't know how and where he died. However, he was buried in his family graveyard on Saturday (July 20).
