After being closed for 37 days, metro rail has finally started running from today. On Sunday (August 25) two trains left from Uttara North station at 7:10 am and 7:20 am for Motijheel.
Earlier, on Saturday (August 24), Additional Project Director of Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6). Zakaria told reporters that Metrorail trials have been given on Thursday and Friday. It is possible to start the metro rail on Sunday.
In a press release on Saturday, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said that necessary instructions for passengers regarding metro rail travel will be available on DMTCL's official website and Facebook page. However, due to unavoidable reasons, the metro rail will not stop at Mirpur-10 and Kazipara metro rail stations for the time being and passenger services will remain suspended.
As per the published timetable, the two metrorails departing from Uttara Uttara Metrorail Station at 7:10am and 7:20am can only be traveled using MRT passes. Metrorails departing from Motijheel Metrorail Station after 9.13pm can only be traveled using MRT Passes. Single journey tickets can be purchased from Metrorail stations from 7:20 am to 8:50 pm. MRT pass purchase and MRT pass top up can be done at the same time. After 8:50 PM, all ticketing offices and ticketing machines at Metrorail stations will be closed.
It is to be noted that miscreants set fire to the police box under the metro line in the Mirpur-10 roundabout area on July 18 due to the violence surrounding the student movement. Later, in the interest of public safety, the metro rail service was stopped after 5:30 pm that day.
