A budget of 7 lakh 97 thousand crore rupees is coming

The potential size of the main budget in the next financial year is going to be 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. It is reported that the size of the budget is being increased by 4.62 percent compared to the current 2023-2024 financial year.

At the same time, the potential target of growth is 6.75 percent. Achieving growth is less important than focusing on controlling inflation. This information was revealed by a senior source of the Ministry of Finance.

In this regard, a senior official of the Ministry of Finance told Dhaka Post that a decision will be taken on the size of the budget for the next financial year in the meeting of the Coordination Council and the Budget Monitoring, Budget Management and Resources Committee on April 4. Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali will preside over those two meetings. A final decision is likely to come from there.

Sources of the ministry say that the main budget for the next financial year has been set at 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. Whereas in the current financial year the size of the original budget was 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores. And in the current financial year, the size of the main budget has increased by 12.30 percent compared to the previous year. Compared to that, the next fiscal year's budget will increase relatively less.

In the budget, at the moment, the importance of achieving growth is reduced and more attention is paid to controlling inflation. The inflation target has been raised to 6.50 percent. Growth is reportedly being moderated in line with IMF conditions.

The total expenditure is 7 lakh 97 thousand crores. Income is 5 lakh 40 thousand crore and deficit is 2 lakh 57 thousand crore. The size is increasing by 35 thousand 215 crores compared to the current budget. The revenue target will increase by around 50 thousand crore rupees. The foreign aid and loan target has been fixed at 1 lakh crore. The rest will be met with internal resources and loans from banks.

The size of the proposed budget for the financial year 2023-24 was estimated at 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores. This huge budget deficit is 2 lakh 57 thousand 885 crores. And the amount of deficit without grants is 2 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores which is 5.2 percent of the total GDP. In that budget, the total revenue target was set at 4 lakh 50 thousand crores.
