Noakhali's Companiganj Upazila Awami League President and Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza has accused his younger brother Shahadat Hossain of killing one of his brothers. Shahadat Hossain made this complaint in a press conference at his election office in Ward No. 1 of Basurhat Municipality on Sunday (May 26) afternoon. He is contesting for the post of chairman in Companyganj under telephone symbol in the third phase upazila parishad election. Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and chairman candidate Shahadat Hossain are brothers of Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. Quader Mirza is voting against Bhai Shahadat by giving Dhaka businessman Golam Sharif Chowdhury Pipul (Pineapple) as the chairman candidate. Shahadat Hossain said, Mayor Quader Mirza has kept the Companyganj area in turmoil for the last three years. My elder brother Obaidul Quader is still being held hostage by threatening to expose his bad words live. He didn't pick up when we called. Although we are five brothers, now Obaidul Quader and Quader Mirza are only brothers. One of our brothers was killed by Kader Mirza. Blame it on Obaidul Quader. Shahdat Hussains are five brothers — Obaidul Quader Khokon, Fazlul Quader Mintu, Abdul Quader Mirza, Shahadat Hussain and Delwar Hussain. Among them, Delwar committed suicide in 2010. Shahadat Hossain alleged that Kader Mirza had encouraged him to commit suicide. Shahadat Hossain said in the press conference, "Mayor Quader Mirza has stockpiled weapons to influence the election." He is terrorizing my staff by forming a helmet-hammer force. Now nobody wants to be my agent. The administration is also on their side, he has also held the minister (Obaidul Quader) hostage. He does not pick up my phone. He complained, "Tashik Mirza, the mayor's son, has been torturing my workers by turning his black car into a torture cell." My son Asad Hossain was beaten and injured by Tashiq Mirza's people in Basurhat on Saturday night. Even after I reported the matter to Companyganj police station, no action was taken. Called the Deputy Commissioner but he did not pick up. Seeking the Prime Minister's intervention, Shahadat Hossain said, "The Prime Minister said that there is no party candidate, everyone should vote in a festive atmosphere." But confusion is being spread in Companyganj by promoting a person as candidate of Awami League. Administration and Election Commission are also against us. I want a fair election in Companyganj along with its solution. That's why I want the Prime Minister's intervention. Voting will be held in Companyganj, Sadar and Begumganj upazilas of Noakhali in the third phase on May 29. Four people are contesting for the post of chairman, two for the post of vice chairman and two for the post of female vice chairman in this election of Companyganj.
