Fire in Rohingya camp, extent of damage is not known

Another terrible fire has occurred in Ukhia Tanzimarkhola Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar. Two fire service units are working in this incident. The fire broke out at Kanthaltali market in D-3 block of the camp on Saturday (June 1) around 1 pm. Additional DIG Mohammad Amir Zafar, the captain of 8-APBN on duty at Ukhiyar camp confirmed this information.


Quoting the locals, he said that there was a sudden fire in Kanthaltali market of Tanzimarkhola Rohingya camp number 13 at noon. Instantly the fire spread around the camp including Kanthaltali Bazar. APBN Police immediately informed the Ukhia Fire Service Station on receiving the information. Later, two units of the fire service reached the spot and started working to control the fire.

Stating that the fire has not yet been brought under control, this captain of APBN said that Cox's Bazar, Ramu and Teknaf fire service stations have been informed to control the fire. Apart from the origin of the fire, the amount of damage has not yet been ascertained, said Mohammad Amir Zafar.


Earlier, on May 24, a fire in the same camp destroyed more than three hundred residences and various structures.
