The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has witnessed a notable decline, with the main index falling by 149 points to close at 4,965 points, the lowest level in four years. The trading volume was approximately 300 crore Taka on the week's first trading day. In response to the persistent market downturn, investors organised a human chain protest, calling for effective measures to stabilise the market.

Initially, the stock market displayed positive momentum, with the index rising by 10 points to reach 5,124 points within the first 10 minutes. However, as the day progressed, the index sharply declined, ultimately closing at 4,965 points—the lowest level since December 3, 2020, when it recorded 4,974 points. Over the past three trading days, trading volumes have decreased by 55 crore Taka, with 341 out of 396 companies and mutual funds experiencing a drop in share prices, while only 29 recorded an increase.

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) indicated that the market is facing turmoil due to dwindling investor confidence and liquidity issues. They urged investors to remain hopeful and to consider long-term investments. BSEC spokesperson Mohammad Rezaul Karim expressed optimism that institutional investments, particularly from banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, and asset management firms, would enhance liquidity in the market.

Furthermore, the Chittagong Stock Exchange also experienced a decline in its overall index, dropping by 199 points, accompanied by a trading volume of 4.15 crore Taka.
