This possible new planet is known as Gliese 12b, which is an exoplanet in the language of scientists. Gliese 12b orbits a small and cool red dwarf star in the constellation Pisces, about 40 light-years from Earth.

The Gliss 12b exoplanet was discovered by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Scientists say that this exoplanet is estimated to be about 1.1 times the width of Earth. This width makes the exoplanet similar to our planet, Venus, which is called Earth's twin sister. Gliese 12b orbits its star only once in 12.8 days. Because this red dwarf Gliese 12b is about a quarter the size of the Sun, it is much cooler than an Earth star.

That is, even though Gliese 12b is only 7 percent equidistant from its red dwarf star the distance between the Sun and Earth, it is still in the habitable zone. This area is also known as 'Goldilocks Zone'.

Gliese 12b receives about 85 percent of the radiation Venus receives from the Sun, but its surface temperature is thought to be 107 degrees Fahrenheit (42 degrees Celsius), compared to Venus' surface temperature of 867 degrees Fahrenheit (464 degrees Celsius).

Although Earth and Venus are both in the sun's habitable zone, one is possible for life and has a favorable environment, the other is an uninhabitable fiery environment, where temperatures are so hot that even lead can melt.

However, the team of scientists behind the discovery of Gliese 12b still cannot say for sure whether this exoplanet actually has an atmosphere. So it is not clear whether it can be habitable like Earth. But researchers are optimistic.
