Established in 1885, it is the dream of talented students from all over the world to study in this university. Touhidul said, "Since childhood, my dream was to become an engineer. After getting GPA 5.00 in SSC and HSC, I got admission in electrical engineering department of BUET in 2005. Research handover to Mohammad Kamrul Hasan sir and Celia Shahnaz madam at BUET. After passing from BUET with CGPA of 3.82, I applied for PhD at Texas A&M University in USA with the inspiration of Celia Shahnaz Madam and went to study in 2014 with a scholarship.
Touhidul is currently researching the use of artificial intelligence in the medical field. He is working on how to diagnose heart disease, brain disease and cancer in advance through artificial intelligence. What kind of treatment methods can be used to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and get the best results from treatment is also a topic of his research.
Published articles in 44 peer reviewed journals till date. Of these, 22 essays on Ph.D. Has published five first author articles during postdoctoral period, which have been published in respected Nature subjournals.
He received the prestigious K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from the US National Institutes of Health last year for his research. Also received Graduate Student Award from Texas A&M University, Stanford Cancer Institute and Stanford HAI Award.
Tauhidul Islam said, 'The journey to get a job as an assistant professor at Stanford was quite long and challenging. I am the first from Bangladesh to join Stanford University as a tenure track (permanent) assistant professor, which is a great achievement for me. The recruitment process for American universities is tough and consists of several steps. Have to interview several times. I applied to several top universities. Ever since I started my PhD, my dream was to teach at a university and my first choice was Stanford.'
Tauhidul said, "In the last six months, I have gone through numerous zoom interviews, onsite interviews and salary discussion meetings. Finally got offers from three of the top five universities in America. During this time I had many thoughts and detailed discussions with my PhD and postdoc mentors. All things considered, I decided to attend Stanford. Alhamdulillah! From now on I can call Stanford my new home.
A new lab will be opened at Stanford University in 2025 under Touhidul. He said, 'Several PhD students and postdocs will be taken in my lab. People who work in medical data analysis, diagnosis, machine learning, deep learning or statistics would be a good fit for my lab.”
To those Bangladeshi students who are dreaming of studying at Stanford University, Touhidul said, "Those who want to do PhD and Master's at Stanford University should have good scores in IELTS and GRE. Apart from this, the CGPA of the graduate level should be high.
