Ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump on his US presidential election victory. Lauding his "extraordinary leadership qualities", Hasina said the people of America had immense trust in the Republican leader.

"Sheikh Hasina has congratulated Donald J Trump on his victory as the 47th President of the United States of America," a statement issued through a post on the verified Facebook page of Awami League, read.

Hasina also wished for ties between Bangladesh and the US to be further strengthened.
