Engineer Fazlul Haque, Managing Director of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) inaugurated the workover work on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon.
Within the next two months, at least 15 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid from this well after the workover work, said the concerned.
According to research, 392 million cubic feet of gas is being added to the national grid every day from 23 wells in the country's oldest Titus gas field. However, 4 wells are closed due to various reasons.
Among them, the authorities stopped gas production from November 1, 2021 due to excessive water rising with gas from well number 14 with gas production capacity of 29.5 million cubic feet dug in 2000.
Not only Titus, several wells in BGFCL's other gas fields have been closed for a long time. Therefore, to increase gas production, BGFCL has undertaken a project at a cost of Tk 523 crore to workover 7 closed gas wells in Titus, Habiganj, Bakhrabad and Meghna gas fields.
Project Director Ismail Mollah said that Bapex will work on 4 out of 7 wells. And for the sake of speedy extraction of gas, the rest of the wells will be worked over by foreign companies.
He also said that after the completion of the work of Titus well number 14, the work of the rest will be started in stages. If all goes well, at least 15 million cubic feet of gas will be added to the national grid from Titus' 14 well within the next two months.
Engineer Fazlul Haque, Managing Director of BGFCL, said that in the last 55 years, about 5 and a half TSF of gas has been extracted from the wells of Titas gas field. However, production is also decreasing as the gas pressure in the wells decreases. Wellhead compressors are installed in some wells to maintain gas pressure. Besides, the gas production from BGFCL's gas fields will increase after the workover of closed wells is completed.
BGFCL General Manager (Administration) at the opening ceremony. Habibur Rahman, General Manager (Projects and Development) Zakir Hossain Tarafdar, General Manager (Operations) Ashraful Alam and others were present.
