Mohammad Hatem, executive president of BKMEA, said, "In reality, more factories are in financial distress than the list given by the industrial police. But we are trying to solve it."

The industrial police has listed the factories that may face problems in payment of salary and bonus before Eid. It has been found that at least 416 factories in the area covered by the Industrial Police may have problems with payment of salary and bonus.

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has 171 member factories, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers Association (BKMEA) has 71 members; In addition, there are 29 member factories of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), a textile sector organization.

According to the sources of the Industrial Police, the Industrial Police held a preparatory meeting on Monday so that there is no problem with the salary and bonus before Eid. After the meeting, a press release said, 'If any garment owner fails to pay the salary allowance, the owner has been requested to find an alternative way.

Chief of Industrial Police. Mahbubur Rahman told The Business Standard, "The list we have prepared, this list may increase or decrease in the coming days."

"We are alert, hoping there will be no problem before Eid," he said.

Mohammad Hatem, Executive President of Readymade Garment Industry Owners Association BKMEA, said, "Many factories do not have enough purchase orders. Also, Bangladesh Bank has not yet released a large amount of incentive money. Because of this, some factories are having problems in paying salaries and bonuses."

He said, "Actually more factories are in financial distress than the list provided by the Industrial Police. But we are trying to resolve it."

Farooq Hasan, president of BGMEA told TBS, "Since the wages of garment workers have increased in December, there has been an impact. At the same time, incentive benefits have been cut. Due to these reasons, it may be difficult for many factory owners to pay bonus before Eid."

"We have written to the finance secretary to waive the dues," he added.

However, Zahidul Islam Siddique, managing director of Oishi Designs Limited, located in Ashulia area of Savar, which is on the list of Industrial Police, told TBS, "There is no problem in our factory. We have no arrears. I don't know why our factory is on the list."

Incidentally, the number of factories in the area under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Police is 9,467. Apart from this, there are also factories in the area under the jurisdiction of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
