More than 34,000 innocent Palestinian lives have been lost in the Gaza Strip of Palestine due to Israeli attacks. Hundreds of thousands of people have taken shelter in the Rafah city of the besieged territory. In such a situation, Israel has announced to attack Rafah.

The international community, including the United States, has been opposing major attacks on the city, which has become a refuge for millions of Palestinians. This time, US President Joe Biden has warned to stop the supply of some weapons to Israel if it attacks Rafah.

He said this in an interview given to the American media CNN, the British media BBC said in a report on Thursday (May 9).

According to the report, President Joe Biden has warned Israel that the United States will stop supplying some weapons to the country if it begins a major ground operation in the Gaza city of Rafah.

In an interview with CNN, he said, "If they go to Rafah, I will no longer supply the weapons that have historically been used in Rafah."

Despite strong and vocal US opposition, Israel appears ready to launch a large-scale offensive in Rafah, says the BBC. This densely populated part of southern Gaza is Hamas's last major stronghold on the territory.

US officials have warned that any major raid on the city could cause massive civilian casualties.

"We are not going to deliver weapons and artillery shells (to Israel)," Biden said. He said the United States had not defined the current situation in Rafah as a ground operation. He said, "They did not go to the parts where the population is high." They have only taken action at the border.

In Biden's words, "But I made it clear to (Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu) and his wartime cabinet that if they raid populated areas, they will not have our support."

President Biden has admitted that Israel used US weapons to kill civilians in Gaza. However, when asked if Israel has crossed the "red line" or the final border in Gaza, the US president replied - "not yet".
